1.5 – A Welcome Intrusion

January 6, 2010

Bianca pulled herself up from the cold, wet ground.  Her heart was still racing, and her head felt so heavy.  What on earth happened, she thought.  One second I’m fine, the next I’m collapsed in a heap.

“It’s okay, nothing to worry about,” she said aloud to herself.  “Joel will be home soon; he’ll know what to do.”  As Bianca walked into the tiny home she now shared with Joel, an unfamiliar sensation crept throughout her body. There was a rumble in her stomach and Suddenly Bianca knew.

Pregnant?  I couldn’t be.  She tried to think, to do the math almost every woman has done, at one time or another.  But she couldn’t think.  The words were there in her mind, but nothing seemed to make sense.  Biance splashed some water on her face, and changed into some loungewear to wait for her husband.

When Joel arrived home, he was thrilled with the possibilities.  They would call the doctor tomorrow, he said, and confirm the good news.  And in all the excitement, Bianca forgot about her little health scare, chalking it up to early pregnancy symptoms.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, two women met up for coffee.
